Embark on a thrilling 4-day adventure to summit Mount Meru, also known as “Little Kilimanjaro,” located in Tanzania’s Arusha National Park. This scenic trek offers a perfect introduction to high-altitude climbing, with lush forests, open grasslands, and stunning wildlife encounters along the way. The route provides an exciting challenge for climbers seeking a shorter, yet rewarding experience.
The climb to Meru’s summit, at 4,566 meters, offers panoramic views of Mount Kilimanjaro in the distance. As you ascend, you’ll pass through volcanic craters and enjoy the beauty of the surrounding nature, making this trek an unforgettable journey for adventurers.
Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be transferred to your hotel in Arusha or Moshi. There, you’ll meet your guide, who will brief you on the trek and check your gear. Any missing equipment can be rented.
You will be picked up from your hotel in Arusha, and after a scenic drive through Arusha National Park, you’ll arrive at Momella gate. An armed park ranger will accompany you as you begin the trek through open grasslands, where you may spot giraffes and buffalo. After passing Maio Falls and the famous fig tree arch, you’ll reach Miriakamba Hut for the night.

The trek continues through rainforest and moorland to Saddle Hut, which you will reach around midday. You have the option to hike to Little Meru (3,820 m) in the afternoon for breathtaking views of Mount Kilimanjaro and Arusha National Park.

Elevation gain: 1,050 m
The ascent to the summit starts at midnight. After passing Rhino Point, the trail becomes more challenging. The final stretch is along the crater rim, with magnificent views of Mount Meru’s ash cone. After summiting Socialist Peak, you’ll descend to Saddle Hut for a break before continuing to Miriakamba Hut.

Distance: 5 km up, 13 km down
Elevation gain: 1,016 m, descent: 2,066 m
After breakfast, the descent follows a shorter route to Momella gate, where you’ll have another chance to spot wildlife. At the gate, you’ll say goodbye to your crew, and your driver will take you back to your hotel or to Kilimanjaro International Airport.
